In this class, I will guide you through the fundamentals of drawing and coloring feminine and masculine character portraits, from using basic shapes and line to build features to generating and implementing beautiful skin tone palettes.
What You'll Learn
The aim of this series is to provide you with the building blocks and knowledge you'll need in order to feel more confident in your ability to tackle drawing and coloring faces. Understanding the construction and proportion of the face is the first step towards designing successful characters.
What Students Are Saying
I admit, when I first saw how short the lesson about the actual construction of a face was, I didn't expect all that much to come out of it. But boy was I wrong :O This class has helped me a lot! Thank you :)

The class gives a very good basis to understanding face drawing. The explanations are short and to the point, with clear visual examples. I love the downloadable materials that sum everything up in a great visual way. Thank you!

- Laura Osborne
Really breaks it down with great guidelines, exactly what I was looking for when I searched for help to improve my portrait illustration sketches in terms of getting the kind of proportions in the style that I like. I also like how she explores other types of styles and proportions, very useful! Thank you!!

Hi! My name's Melissa Lee, and I'm a designer and online art teacher living in the forests of Northern California. I majored in Studio Art in college, but graduated with a continued thirst for learning and improving my artistic skills, but couldn't justify the high price of further brick-and-mortar education. Instead, I discovered myriads of more affordable avenues of art education online, which eventually inspired me to start teaching myself, and I haven't looked back.
I'm currently in the process of becoming a full-time freelancer and art licenser, but in the meantime, I'm cultivating my love of sharing what I know, and encouraging others to nourish their creative side. I love patterns and character art and watercolor paintings. And also bees. Always bees.
